Report on One Week National Workshop on “Research Methodology & Capacity Building”

Date: 21st- 27thNovember, 2016

Sikkim Government College, Gyalshingorganized a week long national workshop on “Research Methodology & Capacity Building for young faculties/ under graduate students and Research scholars in Social Science from 21st Nov. to 27th Nov., 2016. This workshop was organized by the college in collaboration with HRDD, Higher Education, Govt. of Sikkim and funded by RUSA (RashtriyaUchchatarShikshaAbhiyan), MHRD, Govt. of India.

We had invited a number of academicians from North Eastern Hill University, Shillong; North Bengal University, West Bengal and Sikkim University as resource persons for the workshop. Dr. RumaKundu, Assistant Professor, Dept of Economics, Sikkim University; Dr. Nawal K. Paswan, Associate Professor and Head, Dept. of Peace & Conflict Studies and Management, Sikkim to name a few. Dr. Paswan made a power point presentation on “How to write Research Proposal/ Research Report and get our articles published & Manuscripts in Journal and Books”. The session was very fruitful and there were various queries made regarding the topic. There were a total of 30 faculty staffs and around 100 students who took active participation in the workshop.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Master Deo Prasad Rai, Fifth Semester student of Sikkim Government College, Gyalshing won the best performer in Poster Competition of Undergraduate Category held at Guwahati on 10th September 2017 organized by the National Green Tribunal during the Eastern Zone Regional Conference on Waste Disposal & Management.

 

 

 

Deo Prasad Rai, Fifth Semester student of Sikkim Govt. College, Gyalshing won silver medal in painting competition organized by HRDD, Govt. of Sikkim in collaboration with Inner Wheel Club of Gangtok where more than 23 colleges and universities from Sikkim participated.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Report on Awareness cum Counseling Programme on HIV/AIDS, Adolescence and Moral Values in the Youths of Sikkim & Voluntary Blood Donation
Date: 23rd September 2017
The Red Ribbon Club of Sikkim Government College, Gyalshing, West Sikkim organized one day Awareness cum Counselling programme on HIV Aids, Adolescence and Moral Value in Youth of Sikkim at present scenario, Voluntary Blood Donation and Motivation on 23rd September 2017. The Program Officer, RRC, Sikkim Government College, Gyalshing, Mr. Narayan Sharma, took the initiative. All the teachers and the students from Third Semester and the interested students from First and Fifth Semesters participated. The Resource Persons were Mr. Deepak Rai from SIRD Karfector who enlightened the students on Voluntary blood donation and its merits, Mr. Bikash Pradhan from Namthang Sr. Sec. School gave a beautiful speech on Adolescence and importance of moral values in youths for a better society. He shared his experience in the gathering which were very motivating and inspiring. Mrs. Ganga Chettri, ICTC, Gyalshing District hospital educated the students on HIV Aids, its negative impacts and prevention. Mr. Kishor Baniya, RRC Coordinator, West and South Sikkim gave a brief summary of all the topics that were covered in the session.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Report on a Drama Play on the Title “YoKastoPrem”
Date: 3rd – 4thApril, 2018
Sikkim Government College, Gyalshing in collaboration with Human Resource Development Department, Govt. of Sikkim and with the sponsorship of RUSA (RashtriyaUchchatarShikshaAbhiyan) had organized a drama on the title “YoKastoPrem”, with the theme “LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP” on 3rd– 4thApril, 2018 in the Community Hall, Gyalshing. Our students took active participation in the various roles of the Drama and it was very impressive to see their creativity on stage. Report on Legal awareness Programme
Date: 23rd& 24thMarch, 2018
On the 23rd& 24th of March, 2018 Gender Sensitization Unit of Sikkim Government College, Gyalshing in collaboration with Sikkim State Commission for Women organized a Legal Awareness Programme inZilla Conference Hall, Gyalshing. The purpose of conducting this programme was to spread awareness among our students regarding social issues, which are quite relevant in our society. There were a total of 450 participants along with Aganwadi workers and ASHA workers from Gyalshing and adjoining places.
Mr. PujanKharka, Advocate, District & Session Court, Geyzing spoke on POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, 2012 and sexual harassment. He also advised the students that if they face harassment in any form or if they have knowledge of such incidents taking place around them then, they should without any hesitation speak up and report it to the nearest police authority and always be ready to help people.
Mr. MahendraPradhan, SHO, Tikjuk spoke on police public relationship which should be symbiotic i.e., public needs to help the police official to let them work efficiently.

 

 

 

 

 

 


Report on World Tuberculosis Day
Date: 24thMarch, 2018
On 24thMarch, 2018 the NSS Unit- I & II, Sikkim Government College, Gyalshing organized a programme in the college hall to celebrate the World Tuberculosis Day in collaboration with the District Hospital Gyalshing. It was an initiative of the NSS members to come forward and arrange for the programme in order to educate the students regarding Tuberculosis- its causes and adverse effects and preventative measure. Doctors and Counsellors from District Hospital Gyalshinggave awareness to our students.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


DATE: 26TH September, 2017.
On 25th September 2017 Girls football team of SGC, Gyalshingplayed the Finals in the Open League Women’s Football Tournament organized by the Young Boys Football Society Gyalshing at Kyongsa ground and won the runners up trophy and a cash prize of Rs.5000/-.

 

 

 


Three month Basic Computer Course at Sikkim Government College Gyalshing, organized by the College in collaboration with Human Resource Development Department, Higher Education, Govt. of Sikkim funded by RashtriyaUchchatarShikshaAbhiyan (RUSA) during the Spring Semester 2018 where more than 150 students got benefitted.

 

 

 

 

 



 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Sikkim Government College, Gyalshing, West Sikkim organized Three Days Workshop on “Strategy Towards Excellence: Life Changing Mega Event” in collaboration with Human Resource Development Department, Government of Sikkim under RUSA Equity grants w.e.f. 23rd September to 25th September 2018. Mr. NurajPradhan, President Success Trip Organization was invited as Resource Person. The workshop comprised of seventeen powerful sessions. They were:

Students under Swachh Bharat Summer Internship programme distributed dustbins to the different departments of the college and to the people of Aarigoan on 1st August 2018 followed by a rally from the College Campus to Gyalshing market on 2nd August 2018 and presented of a short skit at Gyalshing market spreading the message of cleanliness and waste management to the people.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


On 16th August 2018, the first semester students participated in the Legal Literacy & Awareness Campaign on Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 organized by the District Legal Services Authority, West Sikkim in coordination with Sikkim State Legal Services Authority here in its College Hall.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


The senior students from Third and Fifth semesterin general and the female members from Success Trip Youth Wing of the College in particular successfully organized ‘Freshers Welcome Programme’ to the students from First Semester on 23rd August 2018.

Ms. RoshiniSubba and Mr. DawaTsheringLepcha became Miss Freshers 2018, SGC Gyalshing and Mr. Freshers 2018, SGC, Gyalshing respectively. Report on “Gender Sensitization Workshop for ST, SC and Women Students”
Date: 26th February- 4th March, 2018
A week long Gender Sensitization Workshop for ST, SC and Women Students was organized by the Gender Sensitization Unit (GSU), Sikkim Govt. College, Gyalshing, West District at ZillaConference Hall, Gyalshing, West Sikkim from 26th February- 4th March, 2018. The basic objective of conducting this workshop was to spread awareness among the students (both boys and girls) about gender issues, issues that prevail in our societies but which we mostly tend to ignore and consider them to be as insignificant.
Topics that were covered during the workshop were: Understanding Gender; Women’s Rights; Women’s Representation: Visibility of women; Awareness regarding Domestic Violence, Rape and Sexual Harassment in Workplace/Institute; Gender Justice; Gender-Sex Dichotomy; Understanding Gender Roles in Classroom; Women and Academic Leadership; Personal and Professional Role; Gender and Nature: Ecofeminism; Gender Policies; Gender and Print Media; Gender Sensitivity and Media; Women in North Eastern India; Gender Sensitivity and HIV/AIDS; and Gender and Disability.
The college had invited several resource persons from different professions for the workshop. We had Mrs. SushmaSubba, Assistant Professor, RabindraBharati University, West Bengal; Mrs. Yodida Bhutia, Associate Professor, Sikkim University, Sikkim; Mr. PujanKhadka and Miss PoojaLamichaney, Advocates, District & Sessions Court, Gyalshing, West Sikkim; and Mr. Manish Dev, General Secretary, Socio Spiritual Organization, Divine Creative Society, Patna, Bihar. There were teachers from the college itself who made lectures on several topics during the workshop. They were Mr. BikashChettri, Mrs.KesangWangmo Bhutia, Mrs. Sedem Bhutia, Mr. DhanrajRai, Mr. SurendraRai, Ms. MayalmithLepcha, Mr. Narayan Sharma, Mr. KulBahadurChettri and Mr. Kishore Kumar Rai.
The workshop was attended by 35 staffs and 550 students. The students had many queries with regard to the gender issues and the resource persons gladly answered all their queries. It was overall a great success with complete support from our respected Principal Madam Mrs. Kesang Wangmo Bhutia and Additional Director, Mr. Karma Gyatso Bhutia. The programme ended by a valedictory speech and presentation of khada and a token of appreciation to every resource persons on behalf of the College.

 

 

 

 

 

 


Sikkim Government College, Gyalshing, West Sikkim organized three days National Workshop on “Enhancement of Library and Career Opportunity in Library Science” for ST, SC and Women students in collaboration with Human Resource Development Department (H.E.), Government of Sikkim from 1st to 3rd October 2018. It was funded by RashtriyaUchhatarShikshaAbhiyan (RUSA), MHRD, Govt. of India.
